HYBRID BITRAM

THE BITRAM

A hybrid of the shy reed-dwelling bittern and the heath ram, the bitram’s horns were stronger than any other organic substance known to man. Like gorgons and basilisks, they perished on seeing their own reflection, and became virtually extinct as reed beds declined towards the end of the nineteenth century.

One of a series of four hybrids, inspired by medieval bestiaries and the mythical creatures associated with cabinets of curiosities that evoke cultural, mythical and historical references with ambiguity.
