HYBRID FIZARD

THE FIZARD

Medieval bestiaries used the fizard as a symbol of the plague since its first and last appearances coincided exactly with that of the Black Death. Perpetually bewildered by its bi-function, the lazy ‘tail-foot’ placed a burden on the remaining limb and hastened its decline.

One of a series of four hybrids, inspired by medieval bestiaries and the mythical creatures associated with cabinets of curiosities that evoke cultural, mythical and historical references with ambiguity.
