UNIFORM CHEST

UNIFORM CHEST

A handling resource box, the exterior of the military box resembles the uniformed chest of a WWI soldier, its form retained by magnetic force. On pulling it open and removing the artefact boxes, the interior becomes a stark memorial cross embroidered with facts about those who fought, died or survived.

Commissioned by Northampton Museums & Art Gallery as part of their Hands On History project.

(2007) textiles, card, metal plate, magnets, pigment

interior: 30 x 850 x 1000 mm, exterior: 180 x 450 x 270 mm
